Some of Nigeria’s most prominent leaders gathered in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, for former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Fidau prayer.

Gatekeepers News reports that Kashim Shettima, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, Babagana Zulum, and Dikko Radda were among the high-profile figures who attended the prayer session, held at Buhari’s private residence.

The prayer, led by a team of Islamic clerics including Imam Yazid, featured Qur’anic recitations and supplications, seeking divine forgiveness for the deceased and his admission into Aljannah Firdausi.

The spiritual gathering also included the offering of fidyah, a charitable act in line with Islamic rites, given in honour of the deceased.

According to Shettima who spoke after the session, Buhari’s passing is a monumental loss not just to the North, but to Nigeria and the entire African continent.

He added that President Bola Tinubu had instructed the prayer to be organised as a mark of national respect. Another prayer session is expected to be held the following day.

Former Governors Aminu Bello Masari and Buba Marwa, ex-ministers Hadi Sirika, Abubakar Malami, and Isa Pantami, and former military chiefs were also present at the Fidau prayer.

Traditional rulers, including the Emir of Daura, Farouk Umar Farouk, were also seen in the gathering.

Recall that Buhari died at a medical facility in London on Sunday, July 14 following a prolonged illness. He was buried the following day in Daura by Islamic rites.
