Oleksandr Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois in the fifth round played on Saturday night at London’s Wembley Stadium, to become the undisputed world heavyweight champion.
Gatekeepers News reports that with the victory, Usyk unified the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF titles, securing his legacy as one of boxing’s all-time greats.
The Ukrainian southpaw, who came into the ring with an undefeated professional record, extended his streak to 24 wins.
A former undisputed cruiserweight champion, Usyk has now etched his name in history as one of the few fighters to become undisputed in two weight divisions.
Despite being 11 years older than Dubois, the 38-year-old Usyk looked sharper and more composed from the opening bell. He consistently outmaneuvered his British opponent with superior footwork, timing, and ring intelligence.
The turning point came in the fifth round when Usyk dropped Dubois to the canvas with a powerful combination. Just under two minutes into the round, he landed his trademark left hook, leaving Dubois unable to beat the referee’s count.
The Ukrainian champion fell to his knees in celebration after the knockout and said to the crowd with a smile, “ 38 is a young guy, remember!”
Saturday’s triumph marks a historic moment not just for Usyk, but for boxing fans worldwide, as the heavyweight division finally sees a unified champion after years of title fragmentation.
