Four Super Falcons players have been named in the Team of the Tournament for the just-concluded Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Gatekeepers News reports that Super Falcons secured Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title last Saturday in Morocco, coming back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the host nation 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie made the list following their standout contributions in Nigeria’s journey to a record 10th WAFCON title.
Ajibade, who was named Player of the Tournament, earned the Woman of the Match award in three of Nigeria’s six games.
Okoronkwo scored twice and provided four assists, including a goal and assist in the final, which earned her Woman of the Match honors.
Nnadozie was awarded Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament after keeping four clean sheets, while Alozie’s consistent defensive performance and a decisive late goal against South Africa in the semi-final played a key role in Nigeria’s path to victory.
Also featured in the WAFCON Best XI are Morocco’s Ghizzlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jraidi; South Africa’s Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini, and Refiloe Jane; as well as Ghana’s Portia Boakye and Grace Asantewaa.
