Omotola Odunsi, a fast-rising actress in the Yoruba film industry, has passed away.
Gatekeepers News reports that as of now, the cause of death of the deceased who has starred in several notable films including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire, and Ifedayo, remains unknown.
The news was confirmed by her colleague, Akinola ‘Segbowe’ Akano, who paid tribute to her in an emotional post on Instagram.
He shared photos of the actress along with screenshots of their final conversation, in which she mentioned feeling unwell but said she was recovering.
Amano wrote, “Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK!,” he wrote on Thursday evening.”
“This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family.”
The news has sparked an outpouring of grief across the Yoruba film community. Actress Ashabi Simple, singer Portable’s baby mama, has taken to Instagram to mourn the late actress.
She reflected on their recent meeting on a film set and expressed sorrow over their unfulfilled plans to collaborate again.
Adhabi Simple wrote, “I’m shocked. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for. I saw you earlier this year when I was shooting Deputy and we promised to feature each other in our next project, but now u laboured and didn’t wait to reap what life sef.”
“I remember nights you do chat to give me hope and advice, most of your wishes we talked about didn’t even come true.”
