President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their outstanding performance and qualification for the final of the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement released after their semifinal victory, Tinubu praised the team for their discipline, determination, and unity, describing their success as a source of national pride.
D’Tigress secured a 75–68 win over Senegal in the semifinal match held in Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday.
President Tinubu lauded the team’s resilience and consistency throughout the tournament, also highlighting the leadership of head coach Rena Wakama for guiding the squad to new levels of excellence.
He reaffirmed his support for D’Tigress as they prepare to face Mali in Sunday’s final, aiming for their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title and seventh overall.
D’Tigress remain unbeaten in the competition for nearly a decade, with their last loss recorded on October 2, 2015, against Cameroon.
A win on Sunday would make Nigeria the first nation to clinch the Women’s Afrobasket crown five times in a row.
