President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the D’Tigress following their remarkable victory at the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire.
Gatekeepers News reports that Saturday’s final, Nigeria secured a dominant 78–64 win over Mali at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan.
With this victory, the Nigerian team made history as the first country to clinch the Women’s Afrobasket title five consecutive times.
The win also earned D’Tigress an automatic qualification for 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany.
Celebrating the achievement, President Tinubu praised the players for making the nation proud, noting that their performance exemplifies Nigerian excellence.
The president added that he looks forward to receiving the team in Abuja, along with the prestigious trophy.
D’Tigress now boast a total of seven Women’s Afrobasket titles and have remained unbeaten in the competition since 2015.
Their last loss in the tournament came on October 2, 2015, against Cameroon. The team first won the title in 2003 and successfully defended it in the next edition. Since 2017, they have claimed victory in every edition of the tournament.
