Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has appealed to Peter Obi, 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to return to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Gatekeepers News reports that speaking on Friday during a meeting with Obi and his supporters at the Bauchi Government House, Mohammed urged opposition leaders to put aside personal ambitions and unite ahead of 2027 elections.
He criticised the use of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a political platform by some politicians, stressing the importance of unity among opposition parties.
Mohammed said, “We have to harmonise our interests in the interest of the people of Nigeria. The opposition must come together. This ADC, PDP and even the remaining political parties should come together.”
“And we don’t even hate the present administration; we wish they would do better.
But as I discussed with you, there’s no budget; there is no plan. Everything is about politics from day one.”
“And we have to be cautious, not to disparage our people. We have to unite the opposition, our ego and our interests. So, we can present a common front to compete and ensure that we go to the promised land.”
The Governor warned against division within the opposition and emphasized the need to present a united front.
He said, “There is a lot of hunger and anger. And we don’t want to cause so many disparaging movements.”
“So, please come back. That is where you belong. Don’t go anywhere that is in disarray.”
In his response, Peter Obi said his visit to the state was to engage with students and citizens of the northeast.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Obi stressed the need for a shift in Nigeria’s political culture saying, “Our politics must change. It has to be politics of development, competence, capacity and compassion, where we care for other people.”
“How can we solve it together? Alliance is not for power grabbing, but to bring about changes and development.”
During his visit, Obi donated ₦10 million to both Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Islamic School, as well as ₦5 million to a Qur’anic Memorisation School in Bauchi.
