Former Minister of Transportation and 2023 presidential aspirant, Rotimi Amaechi, has vowed to eradicate corruption within the first month of his presidency if elected in 2027 or resign from office if he fails.

Gatekeepers News reports that Amaechi is part of a political coalition under African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai.

Amaechi said during a conversation on X Spaces on Saturday, “ So, I will eliminate corruption. Trust me, the first month of my being in office, corruption will disappear. If it doesn’t disappear, I will tender my resignation letter, and I will leave. I’m not joking.”

Amaechi, who is part of a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir El-Rufai, reiterated his readiness to serve a single term if given the party’s presidential ticket. He promised to channel savings from the removal of petrol subsidy into national development.

Criticising the current government’s handling of subsidy funds, he alleged that the benefits are “shared between three or four persons at the federal level and the governors,” accusing them of indulging in extravagant lifestyles.

He added, “ It will not happen with me; I will supervise the government. Honestly, I will supervise the government.”

The former Governor dismissed any possibility of reintroducing fuel subsidies, calling them harmful to the economy. However, he described the current subsidy removal as unsuccessful, saying the funds are being diverted into private pockets.

He said, “I will ensure the outcome of the removal of the subsidy is put back in the hands and pockets of Nigerians. If that happens, it will reduce poverty, and we would have capacity to purchase.”
