Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that she played in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) for 10 years without receiving a salary.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ajibade made the revelation in a forthcoming episode of ‘With Chude’ hosted by Chude Jideonwo.
The 25-year-old striker described her experience playing for FC Robo Queens in the NWFL as “a tough moment”.
Ajibade shared that she grew up in a large family in the Mushin area of Lagos and had to do menial jobs to earn a living.
“I washed people’s toilets and bathrooms for money,” she said.
Ajibade’s journey to football stardom has been marked by struggles. She previously revealed that she used to hawk bottles of olive oil and refreshment drinks at deliverance programmes organised by the Mountain of Fire Miracle Ministry (MFM).
Despite the challenges, Ajibade has achieved great success in her career. She captained the Super Falcons to win the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco and was named the best player of the tournament.
Ajibade’s career path has taken her from FC Robo Queens in Lagos to Avaldsnes IL in Norway and then to Atletico Madrid Feminino in 2021.
