Madonna has issued a heartfelt plea to Pope Leo XIV, urging him to visit Gaza and bring hope to the children suffering in the besieged territory.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a social media post, the Queen of Pop wrote, “Most Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it’s too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering. The children of the world belong to everyone. You are the only one of us who cannot be denied entry.”
Madonna’s intervention comes as the international community, including the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and Japan, has expressed deep concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, warning that “famine is unfolding in front of our eyes.”
The US singer-songwriter added, “We need the humanitarian gates to be fully opened to save these innocent children. There is no more time. Please say you will go. Love, Madonna.”
The plea is part of a growing chorus of voices calling for action to address the crisis in Gaza. In July, the Pope renewed his call for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying, “I appeal to the international community to observe humanitarian law and respect the obligation to protect civilians as well as the prohibition of collective punishment, the indiscriminate use of force, and the forced displacement of populations.”
Madonna has been vocal about the Gaza crisis since the war began, using her platform to raise awareness and advocate for peace. During a performance in London in 2023, she told fans, “It breaks my heart to see children suffering, teenagers suffering, elderly people suffering – all of it is heartbreaking… But even though our hearts are broken, our spirits cannot be broken.”
U2’s Bono has also spoken out on the issue, condemning the actions of both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hamas. “Our band stands in solidarity with the people of Palestine who truly seek a path to peace and coexistence with Israel and with their rightful and legitimate demand for statehood,” he said.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with reports of malnutrition and starvation widespread. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry has reported 227 deaths from malnutrition, including 103 children.
