Senate Committee To Probe Airline-Passenger Clashes

Senate Committee To Probe Airline-Passenger Clashes Senate Committee To Probe Airline-Passenger Clashes
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Buhari Abdulfatai, has announced plans to probe recent clashes between airlines and passengers in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that Abdulfatai expressed concern over the incidents, citing questions about operational standards, passenger rights, and discipline within the aviation sector.

In a press statement on Wednesday, Abdulfatai said the developments require “immediate and coordinated action to protect the integrity of the sector and restore public confidence”.

The Senate Committee will engage key regulatory bodies, operators, security agencies, and public interest groups to establish the facts, review procedures, and ensure corrective measures are implemented swiftly.

“We will not allow procedural gaps or lapses in enforcement to undermine safety, professionalism, or public trust in our aviation system,” Abdulfatai stated. He assured that the committee is maintaining active oversight and will drive the process towards enforceable solutions to prevent recurrence.

The decision comes after several incidents, including a notable altercation involving Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde (K1 De Ultimate) and a ValueJet aircraft in Abuja on August 5.

K1 De Ultimate allegedly stood in front of the aircraft to prevent it from taxiing for takeoff. Also, a female passenger, Comfort Emmanson, was involved in an altercation with cabin crew members on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

These incidents have raised concerns about the safety and security of air travel in Nigeria, prompting the Senate Committee to take action.
