Nigeria’s Fuel Consumption Drops 18% In June – NMDPRA

Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has reported a notable decrease in fuel consumption for the month of June.

Gatekeepers Newreports that total fuel evacuation was recorded at 1.44 billion litres, marking an 18.54 percent decline from May’s figure of 1.77 billion litres, a drop of over 328 million litres.

George Ene-Ita, the NMDPRA’s director of public affairs, shared that the average daily fuel consumption for June was approximately 48 million litres, calculated by dividing the total monthly volume by the 30 days of the month, resulting in a daily average of 48,025,604 litres.

In terms of specific fuel types, automobile gas oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel, saw a 1.73 percent increase in supply, totaling 432.18 million litres, up from 424.83 million litres in May. Despite this increase, diesel distribution experienced a significant decline of 23.23 percent, dropping from 552.35 million litres in May to 424.06 million litres in June.

Household kerosene (HHK) recorded a 13 percent decrease in both supply and distribution, with June figures at 7.79 million litres, down from nearly nine million in May. The most significant drop occurred in petrol supply, which fell nearly 48 percent from 72.36 million litres in May to 37.66 million litres in June, with its distribution also decreasing by 16.54 percent over the same period.

Ene-Ita provided further details on fuel truck-out volumes to individual states, highlighting that Lagos received the highest volume at 205.66 million litres, followed by Ogun with 88.69 million litres. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) received 77.51 million litres, and Oyo accounted for 72.81 million litres.

The NMDPRA has expressed its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to enhance distribution and ensure a consistent supply of petroleum products throughout the country.
