Ogun State Police Command has arrested two officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others in connection with alleged electoral offences during the federal constituency by-election in Iperu Remo.

Gatekeepers News reports that the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Saturday when a police patrol team intercepted a Mitsubishi Space Wagon with registration number LAGOS AKD 887 HT.

The vehicle was carrying three occupants, including two INEC officials identified as Toryem Joe-Stans and Mandara Aminat, alongside their driver.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of ₦2.5 million in cash. Preliminary investigations revealed that the money was allegedly collected from a hotel in Iperu on the instructions of a superior officer.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

He also assured that security agencies would continue monitoring the election closely to ensure transparency and order.
