All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the two by-elections conducted in Edo State on Saturday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the polls were held to fill the vacant Edo Central Senatorial District seat, previously occupied by Governor Monday Okpebholo, and Ovia Federal Constituency seat, formerly held by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa.

In Edo Central, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday morning, declared Joseph Ikpea of the APC as the winner after he polled 105,129 votes. His closest rival, Prince Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 15,146 votes.

For Ovia Federal Constituency, Omosede Igbinedion of the APC emerged victorious with 77,053 votes, while the PDP’s Johnny Aikpitanyi scored 3,838 votes. The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sandra Asemota, finished with 925 votes.

A breakdown of the senatorial district results showed APC dominance across all five local government areas. The party scored 20,781 votes in Esan Central against PDP’s 2,065; 20,366 votes in Esan North East compared to 4,566 for the PDP; and 14,873 votes in Esan South East against 4,036. In Esan West, APC secured 39,490 votes while PDP had 2,270, and in Igueben, APC recorded 9,619 votes against PDP’s 2,209.
