The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Mohammed Sani Sami, has passed away at the age of 81.
Gatekeepers News reports that the monarch died on Saturday in a London hospital after a brief illness.
Confirming his death in a statement on
Sunday, Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the state Governor, said the emir’s passing was a great loss to Kebbi.
He quoted Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as saying that “the burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.”
The statement reads, “The Kebbi Government is using this medium to extend its heartfelt condolences to his immediate family members, Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire people of Kebbi.”
“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”
Born in 1943, the late emir had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Army, which he joined on December 10, 1962, before being commissioned as an officer on July 25, 1963.
He served as the military governor of Bauchi State between January 1984 and August 1985 during the regime of the late General Muhammadu Buhari.
He was installed as the Emir of Zuru in 1995, a position he held until his death.
