Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 69,376 Nigerians completed online pre-registration within the first seven hours of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Gatekeepers News reports that according to Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the portal went live at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and had recorded the figure by 3:30 p.m.
Of the total registrants, 33,803 are male (48.7 percent), while 35,573 are female (51.3 percent). Young people aged 18 to 34 make up 48,033 of the registrants, representing 69.2 percent.
The commission said physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at its 811 state and local government offices nationwide.
The in-person exercise will run on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will allow both fresh registrants and those who pre-registered online to complete the process.
It added that the online and physical registration options will run concurrently throughout the exercise, with weekly updates to be provided by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.
INEC stressed that voter registration is open only to Nigerian citizens who are 18 years and above and not already registered.
Olumekun noted that while transfers of voter information and replacement of lost or damaged voter cards are permitted during the CVR, double or multiple registrations remain a violation of the law.
