President Bola Tinubu has departed from Yokohama, Japan, on Thursday night, en route to Brazil, where he is scheduled to begin a state visit on August 24.
Gatekeepers News reports to a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will make a brief stopover in Los Angeles before arriving in Brasília, the capital of Brazil.
Tinubu’s two-nation trip commenced on August 15, with an initial stop in Dubai, UAE, before reaching Yokohama on August 18.
During his time in Japan, he participated in the opening ceremony and plenary session of the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) on August 20.
His visit also included bilateral meetings and an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community held on Thursday night.
At this meeting, President Tinubu encouraged Nigerians in the Diaspora to leverage their expertise and resources to support the nation’s growth and stability. He emphasised that achieving national development is a collective responsibility that requires collaboration between citizens living both at home and abroad.
“I am happy to listen to you. I’m happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some people might decide to stay away; it’s a fundamental right of the individual, but for the economic growth and opportunity available in Nigeria, don’t stay away. Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?” Tinubu asked.
He added: “If we don’t join hands and work together, then we’ve lost the hope of being the leaders we are supposed to be.”
