AAU Secures NMCN Approval For Nursing Programme – Awaits NUC Clearance

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has approved Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, to commence admissions into its nursing programme.

Gatekeepers News reports that Vice-Chancellor Sunday Samuel announced that the intake for the 2024/2025 academic session will soon begin, starting with a quota of 120 students.

He explained that the university is still awaiting final clearance from National Universities Commission (NUC), which will also determine when admissions into the Medicine and Surgery programme can resume.

Samuel stressed that the institution will strictly adhere to the NUC-approved quota to avoid past mistakes.

He further disclosed that the school’s monthly subvention was raised to N500 million in November when the Governor visited the campus.

Additionally, Governor Monday Okpebholo has directed the reinstatement of all staff who were previously dismissed by the defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT).

On institutional reforms, the VC revealed that the senate recently approved a policy to improve efficiency in handling certificates and transcripts.

Under the new system, graduates now receive their certificates immediately after convocation, while transcript processing challenges are being resolved to better serve alumni.

Highlighting recent progress in the College of Medicine, Samuel said the school has addressed several inherited challenges, including the swearing-in of Set 18 and the 2020/2021 medical doctors, the induction of 810 nurses, and resolving indexing and examination issues for MLS students.

He added that the Edo State Government has approved three major building projects for the university: a 1,500-seater lecture theatre, a twin 300-capacity lecture theatre, and a 600-bed hostel.
