The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has repatriated Dai Qisheng, a Chinese national alleged to be a notorious gang leader, following a joint operation with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
Gatekeepers News reports that according to police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Qisheng had been declared wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for allegedly heading violent organised crimes.
He fled his country in 2024 after an arrest warrant was issued by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County and later sought refuge in Nigeria.
Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja tracked and arrested him in the capital on August 8. A week later, on August 15, he was flown back to Beijing under a police-to-police cooperation framework coordinated by Interpol, with support from NCB Beijing and the Chinese embassy in Nigeria.
Adejobi explained that the operation marked a major milestone in tackling transnational organised crime, stressing that Nigeria would not be used as a safe haven for fugitives.
He said the move highlighted the strength of international cooperation in addressing global criminal networks.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun also praised the operation, noting that it reinforced the importance of security partnerships across borders and sent a strong message that Nigeria will not shield individuals escaping justice.
