Court Dismisses Cybercrime Case Against Doctor Who Accused Ex-Lover Of Rape

A federal high court in Lagos has convicted four additional internet fraudsters arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during its recent operation in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Gatekeepers News reports that the convicts: Adeleye Emmanuel, Akinyele Kehinde Fatai, Shonekan Waris Bolaji, and Olufemi Korede Ayomiposi faced separate one-count charges of impersonation, identity theft, and cyber fraud.

In Monday’s ruling, Justice Dehinde Dipeolu found them guilty and handed down different sentences ranging from imprisonment to fines and restitution.

Emmanuel was sentenced to one month of community service under the Nigerian Correctional Service and ordered to publicly display a placard with the inscription: “crime does not pay” between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

Fatai received a six-month jail term with an option of a ₦3 million fine and was directed to refund ₦500,000 via a manager’s cheque from Access Bank.

Bolaji was given 30 days’ imprisonment effective August 10, 2025, while Ayomiposi was sentenced to the same duration starting from the date of his arrest on August 10. In addition, Ayomiposi was ordered to forfeit ₦1 million and two mobile phones to the federal government.

According to EFCC? the four men were among 93 suspects arrested on August 10 during a raid on a hotel situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) complex in Abeokuta.

Seven other suspects linked to the same operation had earlier been convicted of cybercrime offences.
