All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) has released its 2025 nominations list, spotlighting some of the continent’s biggest talents.

Gatekeepers News reports that Nigerian artists once again dominated the chart, but the recognition also spread across other African nations, confirming AFRIMA’s place as the continent’s biggest music celebration.

Nigeria’s Davido and Burna Boy topped the list with five nominations each, leading the pack as frontrunners for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Collaboration.

Shallipopi, Nigeria’s fast-rising street-pop sensation, earned four nominations, including Artiste of the Year, showing how new voices are changing the music landscape.

Rema earned three nominations, while Ayra Starr secured two, one of which is the highly competitive Artiste of the Year category.

From South Africa, Tyler ICU and Uncle Waffles were nominated for their groundbreaking amapiano tracks, while Tyla earned multiple nominations including Best Female Artist in Southern Africa.

Diamond Platnumz and Zuchu carried the Tanzanian flag high, with nominations in categories such as Best Male East Africa, Best Collaboration, and Song of the Year.

Kenya’s Sauti Sol, though recently disbanded, received a nomination for Best African Group, a testament to their lasting influence.

From Ghana, Stonebwoy and Black Sherif were among the top contenders. Stonebwoy was nominated for Best Male West Africa and Album of the Year, while Black Sherif was nominated for Artiste of the Year and Songwriter of the Year.

Morocco’s El Grande Toto was also nominated in the Artiste of the Year category, while artists from Côte d’Ivoire, such as Didi B, secured nominations in rap and hip-hop categories.

Across Central Africa, Fally Ipupa of the Democratic Republic of Congo received multiple nominations.

According to AFRIMA organisers, the 2025 edition set a record with 10,717 entries, the highest in the award’s 12-year history. A 13-member international jury reviewed the submissions and narrowed them down to 343 nominees across 40 categories.

Public voting opens on September 10, 2025, via the official AFRIMA website, and closes on November 30, just ahead of the grand ceremony.
