National Economic Council (NEC) has endorsed the preparations for Nigeria’s upcoming medium-term national development plan (MTNDP), which will span the years 2026 to 2030.
Gatekeepers News reports that during a meeting chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the NEC highlighted the significance of this new plan as a vital component that connects ongoing governmental reforms with the Nigeria Agenda 2050, the nation’s long-term economic strategy.
Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, addressed attendees following the council’s session at the presidential villa, noting that the current development plan is set to conclude in December 2025. This creates the need for a smooth transition to the new plan.
“The 2026–2030 plan will consolidate current reforms while addressing Nigeria’s new socio-economic realities,” he said.
“It will give shape to efforts around job creation, infrastructure, food security, human capital, and social protection.”
Bagudu said the process will involve broad consultations with diverse stakeholders and be guided by a national steering committee and technical subcommittees.
He said the stakeholders would include the three tiers of government, political parties, private sector stakeholders, civil society, youth groups, labour unions, and traditional leaders.
