Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone in international law enforcement with the election of Commissioner of Police Olubode Ojajuni to the INTERPOL Africa Committee.
Gatekeepers News reports that the election took place during the 27th African Regional Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to a statement from the Nigerian Police Force, delivered by spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, this election has secured Nigeria its fifth seat on the committee, with a tenure lasting two years.
The INTERPOL Africa Committee plays a crucial role in advising the African Regional Conference on executing its mandate. It facilitates committee sessions and identifies strategic priorities for tackling crime. Additionally, the committee aims to enhance police cooperation across borders, promote best practices, and develop projects that improve regional and continental security.
“This achievement reflects Nigeria’s growing influence and leadership in global law enforcement matters, particularly in the fight against transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging threats,” the statement added.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, while congratulating Ojajuni, pledged that the Nigeria Police would remain committed to professionalism and active collaboration with international partners.
“The Nigeria Police will sustain active engagement with global partners to promote peace and security worldwide,” the IGP was quoted as saying.
Prior to his election, Ojajuni served as the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command and was one of 66 senior police officers promoted by the Police Service Commission in March 2025. Before becoming Commissioner of Police, he held the position of Deputy Commissioner in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ogun State. His background also includes serving as a Principal Officer 3 to former Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris and as Area Commander of Area A Command in Lion Building, Lagos.
