Dr Kennedy Edegbe Re-Elected As National President Of ELTAN

The English Language Teachers Association of Nigeria (ELTAN) has re-elected Dr. Kennedy Edegbe as its National President for another two-year tenure.

Gatekeepers News reports that Dr. Edegbe is a senior lecturer in the Department of English Studies at Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Edo State.

The announcement was made during the association’s 14th Annual National Conference/Workshop held from August 26 to 30, 2025, at Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, Delta State.

The newly constituted 2025–2027 ELTAN National Executive Committee (ExCo) members include Dr. Kennedy Edegbe – President (Edo State), Dr. Tina Ayanjor – Vice President (Imo State), Mr. Abel Ochika – Secretary (Bauchi State), and Dr. Abashi Attah – Public Relations Officer (Nasarawa State),

Others are Salome Ikokoyo – Treasurer (Rivers State), Dr. Maureen Ororho – Financial Secretary (Delta State), Mrs. Iyabo Akintola – Assistant Secretary (Ogun State), Mr. Toyin Tijani – Auditor (Lagos State), and Prof. Ibiere Ken-Maduako – Ex-Officio (Rivers State)

The Asaba conference, themed “Innovative ELT Pedagogy in Nigeria,” featured keynote speaker Professor Ibiere Ken-Maduako of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, alongside lead paper presentations by Dr. Uche Oboko and Dr. Thompson Ewata.

With diverse sub-themes ranging from technology integration to culturally responsive ELT practices, the gathering brought together scholars, educators, and practitioners to deliberate on advancing English language teaching in Nigeria.

The event was hosted by Professor (Mrs.) J. E. Anene-Okeakwa, Provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, with co-hosts including Dr. Nkeruwem Ogonna, Head of Department, Language and Communication Education, and Dr. Victor C. Okocha, Dean, School of General Studies Education.

The keynote speaker was Professor Ibiere Ken-Maduako of the Department of English and Communication Art, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Lead paper presentations were delivered by Dr. Uche Oboko of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and Dr. Thompson Ewata of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State.
