Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Gatekeepers News reports that there have been speculations that Jonathan may seek a return to Aso Rock on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), though he has yet to make any public declaration.
Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike said, “I know Jonathan very well. He enjoys being respected internationally as a statesman and I believe he will continue in that role.”
The minister argued that those encouraging Jonathan to run again were the very politicians who betrayed him in 2015.
He asked, “People pushing Jonathan — what strength do they have? Were they not the same people who worked against him in 2015?”
Wike stressed that the PDP should not make choices that could deepen its internal crisis.
He warned, “For Christ’s sake, nobody should create problems for the party. When you cause problems, you are the one to blame.”
