Osaka Defeats Gauff At US Open As Sinner – Swiatek Cruise Into Quarters

Naomi Osaka defeated Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth round of the US Open on Monday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the match on Arthur Ashe Stadium was expected to be close but turned one-sided as Osaka dominated from the start.

Osaka said after her victory, “This is my favourite court in the world and it means so much to me to be back today.”

“This is kind of uncharted territory at this point of my career. I’m just enjoying it. I’m having fun.”

Osaka will now face Czech 11th seed Karolina Muchova in the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, men’s world number one Jannik Sinner crushed Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 in just 81 minutes.

Sinner said, “He had a very tough match the last match, today he didn’t serve as well as he usually serves, and I broke him early. Overall, I’m very happy.”

At the net, Bublik praised his opponent, telling him: “You’re so good, this is insane.”

Sinner will face fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who eased past Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.

On the women’s side, Iga Swiatek advanced smoothly, defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-3, 6-1. She will now meet Amanda Anisimova, who beat Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-0, 6-3.

Swiatek said, “I felt like in the beginning she played fast, but later on I felt in my bubble, in the zone.”

Meanwhile, Alex de Minaur powered past Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, reaching his sixth Slam quarter-final. He will face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Auger-Aliassime, back in the last eight after three years, said, “It feels even better than the first time. I think the first time at 21 I was kind of on my way up.”

“To have a few setbacks, injuries, struggles with confidence… to come back for a second time to the quarter-finals here, it feels much better.”
