Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to cooperate with Governor Siminalayi Fubara when he resumes office on September 18, marking the end of the six-month state of emergency in the state.
Gatekeepers News reports that APC state chairman, Tony Okocha, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Port Harcourt while appreciating residents, the party’s national leadership, and President Bola Tinubu for their support during the recently concluded local government elections, in which the APC secured 20 chairmanship positions.
“It is real that September 18 will mark exactly six months since the suspension of the governor,” Okocha said. “As the six months elapse, he is expected to return to office. So, we will work with him. The State Assembly will cooperate with the governor, but if he deviates or delves into obnoxious acts, we will criticise and call him to order.”
Okocha also revealed that the APC intentionally refrained from presenting candidates in Obio-Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, and Port Harcourt City councils, citing the political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in those areas. The three councils were subsequently won by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He further stated that the party is working to consolidate its dominance in the state.
“Our target is to make Rivers 100 percent APC,” he said, urging opposition politicians, including Wike, to join the party for “absolute peace.”
