Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms have resolved salary crises in 27 states across the federation.
Gatekeepers News reports that Idris made this known in Abuja on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by commissioners for information from the 36 states.
He stressed that Tinubu’s administration is driven by national interest rather than politics, adding that developmental projects are being executed without bias.
Idris said, “I have not seen where there are things to do and the president refused to do because the governor of that state is not in the APC.”
The minister noted that the removal of fuel subsidies had unlocked new revenue streams, enabling states to undertake people-oriented projects.
He said, “The removal of fuel subsidies has freed up resources that have enabled all your principals to embark on projects, delivering the dividends of democracy to your people.”
Idris dismissed calls for a reversal of the subsidy removal, saying, “I have not seen one governor, whether in our party or any other party, who has said that we should reverse and go back to the status quo.”
The minister explained that before Tinubu assumed office, 97 percent of federal revenue was used for debt servicing, leaving states unable to meet salary obligations.
He said the policy reforms of the current administration had restored fiscal balance and created room for development, and called on state governments to align with the president’s vision to ensure prosperity is felt nationwide.
Idris also revealed that his ministry would soon lead delegations to the south-south and north-east to inspect projects and engage with citizens as part of a feedback mechanism.
The minister urged commissioners to make use of agencies such as National Orientation Agency, Nigerian Television Authority, Voice of Nigeria, and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria to drive sensitisation campaigns.
Usman Tar, Borno State commissioner for information and chairman of the commissioners’ forum, said the delegation’s visit was to promote unity and shared national values.
He said, “Seated before you are commissioners from different political parties from different regions of this country. Therefore, we represent the broad spectrum of the Nigerian federation.”
“We are not here on a party basis or any narrow interest. We are here on a national platform to discuss ways and means of promoting our national interest, values and orientation.”
