Police in Kwara State have arrested Adeola Badru, accused of defrauding a political hopeful of N300 million under the guise of securing a federal appointment.
Gatekeepers News reports that at a press briefing in Ilorin, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo explained that Badru allegedly posed as an influential politician with strong ties to decision-makers.
He reportedly convinced his victim, Joseph Olugbenga, that he could facilitate a slot for him on the board of the South West Development Commission.
Investigators said Olugbenga paid the suspect the full amount in several instalments in 2023. Once the money exchanged hands, Badru reportedly vanished, relocating to Ibadan and cutting off all contact with the victim.
Detectives eventually tracked him down at his hideout, where he was apprehended. According to the police, Badru confessed during questioning and will face charges once investigations are completed.
