Jibrin Accepts NNPP Expulsion – Says Party Denied Him Fair Hearing

Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the House of Representatives for Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in Kano, has accepted his expulsion from New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Gatekeepers News reports that on Saturday, the Kano State chapter of NNPP announced Jibrin’s expulsion over alleged anti-party activities.

The state chairman, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, accused the lawmaker of persistently attacking the party and its leadership in the media.

Dungurawa described him as a weak politician who owed his political relevance to the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform.

Reacting to the development, Jibrin described the decision as “a rude shock,” insisting that his interview in English and Hausa which the party cited as grounds for the expulsion was consistent with the principles of the NNPP.

He said, “I strongly believe the contents of the interview should not warrant such a heavy penalty.”

“No invitation was extended to me to defend myself before any organ of the party. Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial.”

The lawmaker, who once served as director-general of Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign in 2019 before joining the NNPP, said while he would have preferred to remain in the party, he had no option but to accept its verdict.

He said, “But for the respect I have for the party, its members and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void as it failed to follow due process.”

“I will rather wish the party well and go in peace. I beg the party to allow me also go in peace.”

Jibrin dismissed claims that he was expelled for refusing to pay party dues. He said, “I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay”, stressing that he had no intention of pursuing litigation over the matter.

The former lawmaker also criticised NNPP’s alleged failure to value its members politically. He said, “The party does not believe anybody has political value or deserves respect at various levels.”

“I am grateful to Almighty Allah for whatever value I have, no matter how little. I would rather invest it where it will be appreciated with dignity.”
