Aryna Sabalenka has written her name into tennis history again after defeating Amanda Anisimova to keep her US Open title.
Gatekeepers News reports that for her achievement, world number one will take home a $5 million prize.
She claimed victory in straight sets, winning 6-3, 7-6 in Saturday’s final on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court. The match lasted one hour and 34 minutes.
With the result, Sabalenka became the first woman in a decade to defend the US Open crown. The last player to do so was Serena Williams in 2014.
The Belarusian star now has four Grand Slam titles to her name: two US Opens (2023 and 2024) and two Australian Opens (2023 and 2024).
The win also marked her 100th career victory at a major, a milestone only Iga Swiatek has reached faster in the last 15 years.
Sabalenka also improved her record against Anisimova, closing the gap to 4-6 in their head-to-head meetings.
