Sokoto Govt Sets Up Committee to Oversee Recruitment Into State Civil Service

Sokoto State Government has constituted a committee to oversee the recruitment of qualified indigenes into the state civil service.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Monday, Abubakar Bawa, Director General of Media and Publicity to the state Governor, noted that the approval for the committee was given by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

The initiative is aimed at reducing unemployment and youth restiveness, which the government said are major factors fueling the problem of informant syndrome and worsening insecurity in the state.

Alhaji Jelani Kalgo was chosen as chairman of the committee. Other members include Ambassador Sahabi Isa Gada mni, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Nagwari, and Prof. Ladan Ala (Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education).

The rest are Dr. Faruk A. Wurno (Commissioner for Health), the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Governments Service Commission, and Barrister Gandi Umar Mohammad, mni, who will serve as Member/Secretary.

The committee is mandated to develop criteria for selecting candidates to fill existing vacancies in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, collate and examine applications, conduct interviews and assessments, recommend eligible candidates for recruitment, and submit a report within one month of its inauguration.
