President Bola Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to carry out a comprehensive review of military operations across the country following a terrorist attack that left several people dead in Borno State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the attack which occurred on Friday night in Darajamal community, claimed the lives of both civilians and soldiers.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who conveyed the president’s directive, said the review would cover the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance technology in the fight against terrorism.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” Shettima said. “These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
Borno Governor Babagana Zulum visited the affected community on Saturday to commiserate with residents and families of the victims.
Shettima stressed that the Tinubu administration remained committed to strengthening security operations, noting the president’s recent approval for the acquisition of more drones and his call for intensified strategies against insurgents.
He also revealed that the Federal Government was considering the establishment of state police to address security threats at the grassroots.
“President Tinubu believes that security challenges in some states require specialized units familiar with local terrain and culture,” Shettima said.
The vice president assured the government and people of Borno of continued federal support in the fight against insecurity, while offering prayers for the victims’ families.
