President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address fellow world leaders during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Assembly’s 80th session officially began on September 9, with the debate scheduled to open on September 23 under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years And More For Peace, Development And Human Rights.”

Delegates expected at the gathering include 98 heads of state, five vice presidents, 44 heads of government, four deputy prime ministers, 37 ministers, a crown prince, and four delegation chairs.

A revised speakers’ list from the UN headquarters indicates that Tinubu will present his remarks on September 24 in the afternoon. He is listed as the 17th speaker on Day 2, though the order could change if he does not appear in person.

During the debate, leaders are expected to outline their national positions while addressing shared global challenges.

Several side events have also been scheduled. On September 22, France and Saudi Arabia will co-host a conference on Palestine and the two-state solution. On September 25, world leaders will discuss strategies for tackling noncommunicable diseases such as cancers, diabetes, and cardiovascular illnesses while also promoting mental health.

The following day, September 26, attention will shift to advancing the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

A special session will also mark the UN’s 80th anniversary, with officials and leaders reflecting on past milestones and setting out a vision for a more inclusive multilateral system.

Tinubu, who is currently on a 10-day vacation in France and the UK, left Abuja on September 4.

On September 10, he had lunch with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, where they discussed key areas of cooperation between Nigeria and France.
