UCL: Mbappe Scores Brace In Real Madrid’s Win

Kylian Mbappe scored two penalties, one in each half, as Real Madrid defeated Olympic Marseille 2-1 in their UEFA Champions League opener on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the French striker was the hero for Los Blancos in Xabi Alonso’s first Champions League match as manager.

Real Madrid, who started Vinicius Jr. on the bench, created early chances but were denied by goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli and the crossbar.

Marseille then punished a mistake, with Timothy Weah scoring from Mason Greenwood’s pass to make it 1-0 after 22 minutes.

Madrid equalised six minutes later when Rodrygo was fouled in the box, allowing Mbappe to score his first penalty.

Marseille had good chances afterward, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missed, and Madrid’s task grew harder when Dani Carvajal was shown a straight red card for headbutting the goalkeeper.

Despite being a man down, Madrid won the game when a handball decision went their way, allowing Mbappe to score again from the spot.

Elsewhere, Arsenal secured a 2-0 win against Athletic Bilbao in Spain, with late goals from substitutes Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Juventus and Borussia Dortmund played out an eight-goal 4-4 draw in Italy.
