Afriland Towers Fire: United Capital Confirms 6 Employee Deaths – Casualties Now 10

United Capital Plc has confirmed the death of six of its staff members in the fire outbreak that engulfed Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on September 16.

Gatekeepers News reports that the inferno, which reportedly began in the inverter room located in the basement, quickly spread through the six-storey building.

On Wednesday, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) also announced that four of its officials were among the casualties, bringing the death toll to 10.

In a statement on Thursday, United Capital described the late employees as an integral part of our company and family, adding that their loss “leaves an immeasurable void.”

It said, “It is with profound grief that the Management and Staff of United Capital Plc announce the passing of six of our dear colleagues, following the tragic fire at Afriland Towers, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.”

“We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones, and we continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers, as well as providing all the support we can to them during this most difficult time.”

The firm disclosed that plans are underway for a memorial service to honour the deceased and also expressed appreciation to emergency responders for their efforts during the incident.
