NNPC Trading MD – Maryamu Idris Named Nigeria’s Representative At OPEC

Maryamu Idris, managing director of NNPC Trading Limited, has been appointed as Nigeria’s representative at Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).

Gatekeepers News reports that Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday, 17 September.

The company noted that Idris will serve a dual role, balancing her current responsibilities at NNPC Trading while representing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC.

It added that as the OPEC national representative, Maryamu will act as the country’s principal technical liaison within the organisation.

She has also been admitted into OPEC’s Economic Commission Board (ECB), where she is expected to participate in high-level technical deliberations and contribute to shaping policy recommendations.

NNPC noted that she would work closely with Nigeria’s OPEC Governor, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to ensure the country’s energy agenda aligns with OPEC’s objectives.

The company added, “Maryamu’s extensive experience in the energy sector includes leading Pricing and Valuation efforts within NNPC’s Crude Oil Marketing Division and serving as a Technical Advisor to Nigeria’s OPEC Delegation.”

NNPC further highlighted her past contributions to Nigeria’s engagement with the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and reforms in the oil sector through her work with the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Oil and Gas Implementation Committee (OGIC).

Idris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Abuja and a Master’s degree in Energy Economics from the University of Dundee, United Kingdom.

NNPC congratulated Maryamu on her new role, describing it as a strategic step in safeguarding Nigeria’s energy interests on the global stage.
