National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that three people have lost their lives and 1,415 households have been affected by flash floods in Adamawa State.
Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Thursday, the agency explained that the incident followed a heavy downpour on Tuesday, which submerged several communities in Yola North and Yola South LGAs.
According to NEMA, a joint rapid assessment with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and other stakeholders confirmed that 13 communities were hit by the floods, leaving more than 40 people injured.
The disaster also washed over farmlands and damaged key infrastructure, forcing families from their homes and disrupting livelihoods.
NEMA said, “Displaced families are currently being sheltered within host communities, while some have been relocated to the flood resettlement camp in Girei.”
The agency added that urgent humanitarian needs include food, shelter, medical support, and clean water.
It urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and heed early warning advisories as the rainy season progresses, while pledging continued collaboration with ADSEMA and humanitarian partners to mitigate the impact.
