Rafael Onyedika found the net as Club Brugge cruised to a 4-1 victory over AS Monaco in their opening UEFA Champions League (UCL) fixture on Thursday.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Nigerian midfielder struck Brugge’s second goal in a ten-minute blitz that saw the Belgian champions score three times. Nicolo Tresoldi, Hans Vanaken, and Mamadou Diakhon also got on the scoresheet, while Ansu Fati netted Monaco’s consolation.
Onyedika, who recorded 71 touches — the second highest in the game — played a central role in Brugge’s attacking dominance before being substituted in the 80th minute to a standing ovation from the home crowd.
At the Etihad Stadium, Erling Haaland scored his 50th Champions League goal to inspire Manchester City to a 2-0 win over 10-man Napoli. The Norwegian reached the landmark in just 49 matches — faster than any player in competition history. Jeremy Doku added City’s second with a brilliant solo effort.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford returned to England to haunt Newcastle United, scoring twice to seal Barcelona’s 2-1 victory at St James’ Park.
Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Galatasaray 5-1 in the absence of injured striker Victor Osimhen.
In other results, Copenhagen and Bayer Leverkusen shared a 2-2 draw, while Sporting CP eased past Kairat Almaty 4-1.
