Explosion At Kaduna Defence Industries Kills One – Injures Others

An explosion at Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) in Kaduna has left one person dead and several others injured.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Saturday, Maria Sambo, DICON’s public relations officer, said the blast occurred around 10 a.m. at the corporation’s ordnance factory disposal pit during the destruction of expired explosives.

Sambo said, “On Saturday, 20 September 2025, at about 10 a.m., an explosion occurred at DICON Ordnance Factory Disposal Pit, killing one person and injuring others.”

She explained that the expired stockpile included large quantities of ammonium nitrates, primer caps, and propellants, which had exceeded their lifespan.

According to her, controlled disposal had been ongoing since July, but the accident happened while specialists were finalising the destruction of the remaining materials.

The injured staff are being treated at the 44 Nigerian Army Referral Hospital, while the deceased has been taken to the mortuary.

Sambo expressed condolences to the victim’s family and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

She assured nearby communities that the situation is under control, stressing that safety measures have been reinforced and remaining materials secured.

A board of inquiry has been set up to determine the cause of the incident.
