Kaduna Power Tower Collapse Was Caused By Vandalism – Storm— TCN

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said that vandalism and a heavy storm caused the collapse of a transmission tower in Kaduna, leading to power outages in some parts of the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Saturday, Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s general manager of public affairs, explained that tower 7 on the Kaduna line I and II in Rigasa community fell on Thursday after a downpour and strong wind.

She said engineers discovered that vandals had removed critical tower members, weakening the structure and making it prone to collapse.

The statement reads, “The incident mainly disrupted supply to areas in Kaduna South, while Kaduna North was not affected.”

“To cushion the impact, Kaduna Electric was advised to connect its 33kV Mogadishu feeder with the 33kV Abakwa feeder so that customers in Mogadishu could still receive electricity.”

The company listed the affected areas as Kinkinau, Yan Tukwane, Kabala West, and Unguwan Muazu.

Mbah added that engineers are dismantling the collapsed tower to clear the site and begin erecting a new one.

She apologised to customers in southern Kaduna and assured them that steps are being taken to restore supply quickly.
