Vice-President Kashim Shettima has been designated to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Gatekeepers News reports that the event is scheduled to take place in New York, United States, from September 22 to 28, 2025.
In a statement on Saturday, Stanley Nkwocha, senior special assistant to the president on media and communications, noted that Shettima will represent Nigeria on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
The vice-president is expected to attend the UN’s 80th-anniversary commemoration on September 22 and participate in the high-level general debates held between September 23 and 28.
Nkwocha noted that Shettima will also deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00pm and 9:00pm New York time.
Additionally, he will join other world leaders at a special climate event for heads of state and government, convened by the UN Secretary-General, where Nigeria is set to announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
He will attend a roundtable of global champions on affordable housing, hosted by the Kenyan president, and hold bilateral meetings with various leaders.
Following the UNGA session, Shettima is scheduled to travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
