Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Gatekeepers News reports that the event is scheduled to take place in New York from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), Shettima is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the global gathering.
He is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, join world leaders in the high-level general debates, and attend a series of side events.
At this year’s UN climate event, the Vice President will announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
He will also participate in a climate summit for Heads of State and Government hosted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday.
In addition, Shettima will attend the high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing on September 24, hosted by Kenya’s President, and hold other bilateral meetings.
After the UNGA, he will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for talks with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
