A tragic boat accident has claimed the lives of ten people in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Gatekeepers News reports that the victims, identified as residents of Zalla-Bango village, were reportedly fleeing attacks by armed bandits when the incident occurred.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, the state police command confirmed the accident on Saturday, stating that the boat capsized, leading to the drowning of all 10 passengers.

The accident follows a similar tragedy at Garin-Faji, Sabon-Birni LGA, where over five people died and 21 were rescued. Just a week earlier, another mishap occurred at Kojiyo village in Goronyo LGA.
In both cases, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), National Inland Waterways Authority, and Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency were among the first responders.
