The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is delivering unprecedented infrastructural development across the Northern region.

Gatekeepers News reports that speaking in Kano on Saturday at the launch of a scholarship programme for 1,000 undergraduates sponsored by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Ata rejected claims that the North has been sidelined under the current government.

According to him, states in the region including Kano, Katsina, and Sokoto have benefited from key federal projects and political appointments, in some instances even more than states in the South where President Tinubu hails from.

He cited the Renewed Home Estate Programme, which provides for 250 housing units per state, as an example of Tinubu’s commitment.

Ata added that the President went further by approving an additional 500 housing units for Kano State, while also supporting similar projects in Katsina and Sokoto.

The minister said, “Tinubu has brought so many projects to Kano State. In the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, we are currently executing numerous programmes.”

“With the extra 500 units approved, this administration is directly tackling the housing deficit in the region.”

Ata also credited the President’s support for Senator Jibrin with boosting human capital, social, and economic development in Kano, dismissing what he described as propaganda against the President’s policies.

At the event, Senator Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Jibrin, said the scholarship initiative reflects a long-term investment in human capital and a brighter future for young people.

He also provided the 1,000 recipients with N20 million in transportation support, urging them to remain focused and serve as good ambassadors of the state.

Bayero University Kano Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, meanwhile appealed to politicians to put aside personal interests and work together to address the education crisis, warning that unchecked out-of-school youth could pose future security threats.
