NCoS Intercepts Attempted Drug Smuggling Into Kuje Custodial Centre

Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has thwarted an attempt to smuggle illicit substances into the Kuje custodial facility in Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Monday, Samson Duza, spokesperson of the FCT command, said the interception took place at about 12:45 pm on Saturday during a routine security search.

According to him, the suspect, identified as Njimogu Ikedi, tried to gain access to the facility while concealing items suspected to be cannabis sativa and other psychoactive drugs in his clothing.

Duza noted that Christopher Jen, controller of corrections for the FCT, immediately directed the suspect’s arrest. He added that Ikedi has since been handed over to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Jen cautioned individuals with ulterior motives to desist from such attempts, stressing that correctional officers remain vigilant and committed to uncovering unlawful activities.

He further urged members of the public to support the service’s efforts in reforming and rehabilitating inmates for the sake of public safety.
