Burkina Faso – Mali – Niger Withdraw From International Criminal Court

Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger Republic have jointly announced their withdrawal from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Gatekeepers News reports that the three French-speaking West African nations, operating under the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), issued a statement on Monday declaring that the ICC had failed in its mandate.

The statement signed by Mali’s president and AES chair, Assimi Goïta, reads, “The ICC has proven itself incapable of handling and prosecuting proven war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes of genocide, and crimes of aggression. Instead, it has become a global example of selective justice.”

The AES governments further claimed that the court had turned into an instrument of neocolonial repression in the hands of imperialism and vowed to establish indigenous mechanisms for the consolidation of peace and justice.
