Peter Obi Conferred With Honorary Citizenship Of Georgia In USA

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has been conferred with Honorary Citizenship of the U.S. State of Georgia.

Gatekeepers Newreports that the recognition came on Thursday, September 25, during his participation in events marking Black Congressional Week in Washington, D.C., with a focus on Georgia State engagements.

Obi joined U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock at the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception in the Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, where discussions centred on strengthening African democracy and development. He said Senator Warnock encouraged deeper dialogue on Africa’s governance future.

The former Anambra governor also met with Kim Clark, CEO of Georgia Power, which generates over 20,000 megawatts of electricity nationwide. Obi described the engagement as “deeply insightful,” noting that energy partnerships are vital to Africa’s growth.

At the One Voice Africa Forum, a platform dedicated to defending Black immigrant dignity, Obi called for stronger advocacy for good governance across the continent, stressing that “Africa’s potential is immeasurable if led by visionary and responsible leaders.”

The day concluded with the State of Georgia conferring Honorary Citizenship on Obi—an honour he said reinforced his commitment to “learning, serving, and building a new Nigeria that is truly possible.”
