Security agencies in Kogi State have rescued eight abducted passengers, while four others remain in captivity.
Gatekeepers News reports that the state police command disclosed the development to journalists on Saturday in Lokoja.
The command’s spokesperson, William Aya, said the incident happened on Friday along the Okene–Auchi road.
According to him, the victims were onboard a Big Joe Toyota Hiace commuter bus, registered Edo FUG 13 XY, which departed Abuja for Benin City, Edo State, before being intercepted by gunmen who took away all twelve passengers.
Aya explained that the swift response of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Nasir Muhammad of the Okene division, working with the military and a local vigilante team, led to the rescue of eight victims, including the bus driver.
He added that efforts are ongoing to secure the freedom of the remaining four captives and to track down those behind the attack.
