Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) has reported a rise in trading activities, with N494.12 billion worth of equities exchanged in 116,645 deals, amounting to 7.68 billion shares between Monday and Friday.
Gatekeepers News reports that compared to the previous week’s N85.19 billion traded for 2.73 billion shares in 127,284 deals, the transaction value represents an increase of 480.02 percent.
Data from NGX showed that the financial services, oil and gas, and services industries were the top-performing sectors during the week.
The financial services sector dominated, accounting for 6.39 billion shares valued at N71.80 billion across 54,799 deals. This represented 83.27 percent of the total equity turnover volume and 14.53 percent of its value.
The oil and gas industry ranked second, with 730.51 million shares worth N391.36 billion traded in 7,059 deals. The services sector followed, with 128.64 million shares exchanged in 5,863 deals, valued at N962.9 million.
According to the bourse, Unity Bank Plc, Aradel Holdings Plc, and Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc were the top three equities, contributing 67.79 percent of total trading volume and 81.95 percent of total value. Altogether, they accounted for 5.2 billion shares valued at N404.94 billion in 2,667 deals.
Market analysis revealed notable gains across several stocks. Thomas Wyatt Nig. Plc appreciated by N0.61, closing the week at N3.3 kobo per share from an opening price of N2.69 kobo. Secure Electronic Technology Plc gained N0.16, moving from N0.75 kobo to N0.91 kobo.
Mecure Industries Plc rose by N4.5, ending the week at N26.1 kobo compared to N21.6 kobo at the start. Chellarams Plc increased by 11.3 percent to N16.25 kobo from N14.6 kobo, while Royal Exchange Plc advanced to N2.25 kobo from N2.04 kobo, adding N0.21.
On the downside, Wema Bank Plc lost N2.55, closing at N18 compared to N20.55 at opening. Fidelity Bank Plc dropped to N18.45 kobo from N20.75 kobo, shedding N2.3.
Eterna Plc recorded a 10 percent decline, as its share price fell from N31 to N27.9 in five days. Ikeja Hotel Plc also dropped by N2.25, moving from N22.95 kobo to N20.7 kobo. Africa Prudential Plc’s share price declined to N14.5 kobo from N15.95 kobo, representing a N1.45 loss.
